I have to say that these little moments in our lives are the ones that you remember & they touch your heart. It is nothing really special or dramatic - just one of those little "mom" moments that make it all worth while.
For 2 summers, I have been trying to teach my kids to ride their bikes without training wheels. Yes, they are a bit older than I originally planned to have this accomplished by. Amidst a sore back (90lb children are not easily to hold up on a bike!) and a lot of frustration on all 3 of us, it just didn't work. They just couldn't get the hang of it.
For whatever reason this morning, I decided we were going to the state park to try again. I have to admit, they weren't too thrilled with my Sat morning plans. So we plop the bikes down on the grass & I tell them to go give it a try. Talk about a look of torture! I told them - just keep peddling - don't stop no matter what! Well, someone up there was smiling down at me & the kids picked it up - I swear - within minutes! I was talking to Rachael & I turned around to see what AJ was up to & he was doing it all by himself. I wish I had gotten a photo of his face - the look of - "I did it!" That was enough for Rachael to try, because her brother couldn't one up her! They were just so proud of themselves & so excited!
Of course we can never have any adventure without an injury! Rachael ended up wiping out & scraping up her elbow. While cleaning her up at the car, I turn around to find AJ taking his bike up to the top of a tall grassy hill - he was very disappointed with me when I made him "walk" his bike back down instead of riding it. I guess his confidence in himself was a little more than mine, especially since he had been at it for only a 1/2 hr!
Well, thanks for sharing in my "proud mom" moment! Now I know what we are doing the rest of the weekend!
